Precision Lifestyle Medicine Program

A physician led approach to personalised health and wellbeing.

The Precision Lifestyle Medicine Program is a structured medical service led by Dr Bikram Karmakar. It combines Sport and Exercise Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, Precision Health technology and app supported guidance to help patients better understand their health, identify priorities and create an individualised Precision Prescription.

When booking, please select Lifestyle Medicine Initial for your first appointment. Lifestyle Medicine Follow Up will be used for review appointments once available.

About the program

What is Precision Lifestyle Medicine?

Precision Lifestyle Medicine is a structured, medically guided approach to improving health through personalised lifestyle recommendations. The program considers exercise, nutrition priorities, sleep, stress, recovery, prevention, medical history and health goals together.

It is not a generic wellness program. Recommendations are prioritised according to your health needs, medical background and what is realistic for your life.

Technology may support the process, but clinical judgement remains central.

Patients are also supported between consultations through a patient application that provides ongoing education, personalised information and practical guidance.

LIFESTYLE MEDICINE FOUNDATIONS

The foundations of Lifestyle Medicine.

Lifestyle Medicine considers the major foundations that influence long term health. In this program, these areas are reviewed in the context of your medical history, symptoms, goals and daily life. The aim is not to change everything at once, but to identify the areas most relevant to your health and build a realistic plan from there.

Nutrition priorities

Practical nutrition guidance aligned to your goals, medical history and daily life.

Movement and exercise

Individualised movement, exercise and strength recommendations to build capacity and confidence.

Sleep and recovery

Why physician led

Why a physician led approach?

Dr Bikram Karmakar is a Sport and Exercise Physician and Fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine. The program brings together medical assessment, exercise prescription, lifestyle medicine and personalised health planning.

Lifestyle recommendations are considered in the context of your medical history, symptoms, medications, injuries, risk factors and goals.

The program is designed to complement the care provided by your GP and other treating health professionals.

Program structure

A structured long-term pathway

Step 01

Initial consultation

60 minutes

Review goals, medical history, lifestyle, questionnaire and Precision Health assessment. Relevant measurements may be performed, the supporting application is introduced and the first Precision Prescription is created. Blood tests or other investigations may be arranged if required.

Step 02

Progress review

30 minutes, around 2 to 3 months

Review progress, barriers, results and practical challenges. Refine the Precision Prescription so the plan remains realistic and useful.

Step 03

Six month review

30 minutes, around 6 months

Assess overall progress, repeat relevant measures where appropriate and develop a longer term strategy for maintaining change.

Step 04

Ongoing follow up

As needed beyond the program

Additional reviews can be booked if further support is helpful. This allows the plan to continue evolving beyond the initial 6 month program, with follow up tailored to your goals, progress and clinical needs.

Between consultations

Guidance beyond the appointment.

The program is designed to support patients between consultations, not only during appointments.

Patients have access to a supporting application that provides personalised information, education and practical guidance related to their health profile and Precision Prescription.

This can help reinforce the recommendations discussed in consultation and support day to day implementation around movement, nutrition priorities, sleep, recovery and other lifestyle foundations.

Technology supports the process, but clinical judgement remains central. Recommendations are reviewed and interpreted by Dr Karmakar in the context of your medical history, symptoms, goals and progress.

GP referrals

GP referrals and coordinated care.

A GP referral is preferred because it supports coordinated care and may allow Medicare rebates where eligible.

Patients without a referral are still welcome, although specialist Medicare rebates may not apply.

Where appropriate and with patient consent, Dr Karmakar can communicate with the patient’s GP regarding the assessment, management plan and progress.

For GPs and referrers

Information for referring GPs.

The Precision Lifestyle Medicine Program is designed to complement primary care, not replace it. It provides a structured physician led pathway for patients who may benefit from deeper assessment, personalised lifestyle recommendations and support with implementation.

The program may be suitable for patients seeking support with metabolic risk, cardiovascular risk, diabetes risk, fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, reduced confidence with activity, energy, sleep, weight, strength, fitness or long term prevention.

With patient consent, Dr Bikram Karmakar can communicate with the referring GP regarding the assessment, management plan and progress.
